The admin and founders of Harrogate Community Radio are committed environmentalists.

Scooby was head of Harrogate Greenpeace back in the day, when it used to run. Allan sits on the board of Long Lands Common and Andy studied Zoology & Botany at uni – but was a bit too thick to work in the field so went in to teaching, instead of research. We have been campaigning for environmental justice since the eighties and nineties.

To compliment this, the hosts on the station are, on the whole, environmentally aware - we encourage people to record their show in their own house so that there is no massive over-land commute to a studio. Because we do not have a studio we do not have anywhere extra to power and to heat.

  • We all maintain a low carbon footprint personally and in the way we approach our personal life & our business life.
  • When a purchase is made in our online shop, we offer to plant a tree on your behalf. This is all done from the comfort of your own desk.
  • The electricity used to power the responsive tech that edit the shows and maintain the station, from our end, are all powered through renewable energy; some of us even have our own solar panels!

Harrogate Community Radio is run remotely – as in; there is no central studio for people to drive to in their SUV and no extra building to heat. The shows you are listening to are all produced by the Presenter in their own home. This cuts down on travel costs and eliminates the footprint of having a studio.
